TanCacao / Chocolate Design,
Food & Packaging Design

Description

In the heart of southern Mexico, Tan Cacao blends design excellence with four generations of chocolate-making tradition. We collaborated with TanCacao to achieve a harmonious fusion of aesthetics and artisanal craftsmanship, celebrating the rich heritage of cacao cultivation and chocolate production.

The chocolate bars & packaging were redesigned to reflect the brand values and commitment to quality, tradition, and ethnic harvest through simplicity, elegance, and authenticity, mirroring the purity and richness of the
chocolate. The biggest challenge and satisfaction is to push the boundaries of traditional and local businesses. There is a huge satisfaction in helping them shape dreams and ideas and catalyze them into bigger, more viable, and more transcendent solutions. With Tan Cacao there is a dream and a challenge on how to turn tradition and craftmanship into a global and transcendent brand.

How do we transform tradition and craftsmanship into a global and scalable brand?

TAN CACAO seeks to incorporate natural and cultural elements that allude not only to the origin of cocoa, but also to its place of origin, such as the Tacaná volcano, emblematic of Tapachula, Chiapas, and the traditions that have shaped the region, including cultural elements found in textiles.

All chocolate bars are made from locally sourced cacao beans, carefully harvested from the southern part of Mexico, right below one of the oldest volcanoes in the region, El Tacana. The mountain has become the emblem for the brand, pressed into the packaging sleeve and only visible with the contrast of color.

The chocolate bar involved conducting several iterations using 3D-printed CAD modeling to perform pouring tests with different chocolate brands. Each brand has different densities depending on the percentage of cocoa and sugar they contain. These tests were carried out to verify that the mold could precisely imprint the different densities of chocolate.
